World Butchers' Challenge 2017

Our apprentice butcher Joe Maberley was selected to enter this year.

We’re so proud of our Apprentice Butcher Joe Maberley who was selected to enter the World Butchers’ Challenge and placed! We’ll be cheering him on in the National Finals in Queensland. Just look at his spread. The judges were very impressed with his presentation, especially his stand out signage. The whole team is working with Joe to give him all their tips and tricks so we can blow everyone else out of the water in September.

The World Butchers’ Challenge aims to develop an environment where butchers strive to exceed current industry practice. Everything from general workmanship and meat cutting to presentation skills and creativity is judged.

Over the duration of about three hours, teams are given a beef side, a side of pork, a full lamb carcass, and five chickens as base ingredients. Teams provide their own seasonings, spices, marinades, and garnishes, plus their bring their own props including plates and signage.

Independent judges, one from each country, judge and score the team based on butchery skill, workmanship, product innovation, overall finish, presentation and display.
